Dunbar was a free agent the Cowboys needed to prioritize to re-sign. However, the Cowboys let Dunbar go on three free-agent visits as he took trips to Seattle, San Francisco and Chicago to meet with the NFL clubs in those locations. Ultimately, Dallas is still home for Dunbar who originally signed with the ‘Boys as an undrafted free agent out of North Texas in 2012.

The setback is a solid pass-catching option out of the backfield and a nice piece for a team using the running-back-by-committee approach. He can easily create mismatch problems with linebackers on opposing defenses. Early on last season, Dunbar led the Cowboys in receiving. The running back collected 21 receptions for 215 yards before tearing his ACL and MCL on kick return against the Saints in Week 4.

Dunbar has limited mileage through 41 career NFL games. He’s averaging 4.6 yards per carry and has a total of 52 receptions for 524 yards in four years.
